Dr. Md Mehedi Hasan is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Previously, he held the position of Associate Professor and served as the Research Director of the Stamford University Research Centre (SURC) at Stamford University Bangladesh. Additionally, Dr. Hasan worked as the Lead Machine Learning Engineer (R&D - Asia Pacific) at RME Australia, where he contributed to the development of AI-driven Industry 4.0 automation systems tailored for Mill Relining Machines. His work involved designing and implementing deep learning-based machine vision systems incorporating robotics and IoT, enabling advanced functionalities such as visual servoing, liner pick-up, positioning, and placement. This solution also integrated embedded system-on-module (SoM) computing to support the full automation of MRM.
Dr. Mehedi obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from UNSW Australia in early 2017, specializing in Computer Vision and Machine Learning. Subsequently, he undertook postdoctoral research at UNSW Canberra, contributing to a consulting project for the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). He later joined the Phenomics and Bioinformatics Research Centre at the University of South Australia, Adelaide, as a postdoctoral research associate. In this role, he focused on applied research in plant phenotyping, utilizing aerial and ground-based imaging platforms equipped with various geospatial sensors to gather real-world data, followed by statistical analysis through AI and deep learning methodologies. Previously, he completed an MEng in Computer Engineering from Kyung Hee University, South Korea, and a BSc (Hons.) in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Dr. Mehedi is an IEEE member and serves as a reviewer for several prominent journals, including IEEE TCSVT, IEEE TCE, IEEE Access, Briefings in Bioinformatics, Plant Methods, Frontiers in Plant Science, Functional Plant Biology, Scientific Reports, IEEE Access and so on. Throughout his career, he has received several prestigious fellowships and scholarships, such as the Research Fellowship (UNSW Australia), Global IT Fellowship (NIPA South Korea), President’s Scholarship (KHU South Korea), PRSS (UNSW) & SDC (KHU) Travel Grants, among others. His research interests encompass UAV, Robotics Visual Servoing, Plant Phenomics, IoT, Advanced Computer Vision, and Machine Learning.
