Musabbir Ahmed Arrafi is currently pursuing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA. He works as a Graduate Research Assistant in the SMALT Lab, where his doctoral research lies at the intersection of mechanical engineering, intelligent manufacturing, machine learning, and autonomous systems. His current work is aligned with smart and robot-assisted advanced manufacturing, combining computational and experimental approaches to develop intelligent, reliable, and scalable engineering solutions.
Before beginning his PhD, Musabbir completed his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Dayton, where he worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in the DaRC-ARMS Lab. His master’s research focused on autonomous navigation, learning-based dynamics modeling, model predictive control, sensor fusion, and multi-agent robotic systems.
Before joining the University of Dayton, Musabbir earned his Bachelor’s degree in Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. During his undergraduate studies, he worked with the AVIS Research Lab. He was also a core member of a precision agriculture project funded by an R&D fellowship from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh.
Research interests: Robotics, machine learning, control systems, sensor fusion, and intelligent mechanical systems. Arrafi’s long-term goal is to develop intelligent engineering systems that combine physical understanding with machine learning, transforming data, dynamics, control theory, and design into practical tools for next-generation mechanical, manufacturing, and autonomous systems.
